The HLTAID012 First Aid course covers the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.

HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an education and care setting

The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

The First Aid Oz HLTAID012 course allows the student to view videos, read learning materials and complete assessment quiz from home, prior to coming in for practical training and assessment.

Its the perfect format for those who are time poor, and can be done without taking a day off work.

We also offer this course for workplace delivery – aged care, child care, schools etc.

    During this course students will learn to :

    1. Respond to an emergency situation

    Recognise and assess an emergency situation.

    Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty.

    Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response.

    Seek assistance from emergency services.

    2. Apply appropriate first aid procedures

    Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance ARC guidelines.

    Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles.

    Display respectful behaviour towards casualty.

    Obtain consent from casualty where possible.

    Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible.

    Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions.

    Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles.

    3. Communicate details of the incident

    Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.

    Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.

    Complete applicable workplace or site documentation, including incident report form.

    Maintain privacy and confidentiality of information in line with statutory or organisational policies.

    4. Evaluate the incident 

    Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers and seek help when required.

    Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.
